The State of AI: Global Survey 2025
AI use is now common across organizations, but most have not yet scaled it enterprise-wide. The survey says adoption has widened across business functions and includes growing experimentation with AI agents, yet material EBIT impact is still limited for most firms.
Reading notes#
- Nearly nine in ten respondents say their organizations use AI regularly in at least one business function, but about two-thirds have not begun scaling it across the enterprise.
- AI agents are already under experimentation in many organizations, with 62 percent saying their firms are at least experimenting with them.
- Respondents report cost and revenue benefits at the use-case level, and 64 percent say AI is enabling innovation, but only 39 percent report EBIT impact at the enterprise level.
- The companies that get the most value from AI usually set growth or innovation alongside efficiency as objectives.
- High performers are more likely to redesign workflows, use AI for transformative change, and scale AI agents across more functions.
- Senior leadership ownership, clear validation processes for model outputs, agile delivery, strong talent, and data and technology infrastructure are associated with higher value from AI.
- Respondents differ on workforce impact: 32 percent expect a decrease in total workforce size next year, 43 percent expect no change, and 13 percent expect an increase.
- Risks are being mitigated more often than before, especially privacy, explainability, reputation, regulatory compliance, and inaccuracy.
