Noise Is More Than Static on the Line
00:09:26 — Noise Is More Than Static on the Line
The concept of noise in communication extends far beyond physical interference like poor audio quality. It includes cognitive noise such as being distracted while listening, semantic noise from unfamiliar vocabulary or accents, physiological noise like hunger, and perhaps most importantly, unconscious biases toward or against the sender. You might identify with someone because they come from the same place, or react negatively because they resemble someone you had conflict with. These graduated forms of noise can go entirely undetected while fundamentally distorting the received message.
