If anyone can refute me—show me I’m making a mistake or looking at things from the wrong perspective—I’ll gladly change. It’s the truth I’m after, and the truth never harmed anyone.

The passage is in Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations, book VI, section 21, written in Greek by the Roman emperor in the second century. In George Long’s translation, he says that if anyone can convince him that he does not think or act rightly, he will gladly change, for he seeks the truth, by which no man was ever injured. The section ends by saying that the one who is injured is the one who abides in his own error and ignorance.

The saved text follows a modern English translation of the same section.
