Consider the inverse of this position. If I have a duty to society or the ‘community’ not to kill myself, then doesn’t society have a reciprocal duty not to kill me or threaten me with death, either in the form of capital punishment or through military conscription, where I might die in a theatre of war or a terrorist attack?
