For Žižek the current moment is not one where ordinary ethical or religious frameworks can absorb the decisions we face — ecology, AI, abortion. It is a Socratic moment: before asking what to do about X, we must interrogate what X actually means. The pre-Socratic cosmological stance (what is the world made of?) is insufficient; the reflexive stance (what do we mean when we say justice, life, thinking?) becomes unavoidable.
